Castelle Print Server [Castelle]

Castelle's Print Server processor consists of a standalone unit directlyconnected to an Ethernet/NFS local-area network. It provides buffering,spooling, and graphical metalanguage conversion services for outputdevices.Print Server accepts printer datastreams directly from the Ethernet/NFSnetwork cable, and stores, processes, converts (if necessary), and printsthe data on a directly connected printer. Typical printers supported byPrint Server include the Apple LaserWriter series, the Hewlett-PackardLaserJet series, and the Epson/IBM dot-matrix family. The printers areconnected directly to RS-232 serial and Centronics/parallel interfaceports provided by the Castelle Print Server box.The conversion algorithms inside Print Server allow PostScript printerdata to be converted and output on Epson-compatible dot-matrix printers,Hewlett-Packard (or HP-compatible) LaserJet printers, or directlyattached laser engines. To assist in this conversion, Print Server is anactual full-fledged PostScript Raster Image Processor (RIP). Inaddition, Print Server converts HP-GL, vector-oriented pen-plotterdatastreams to PostScript.
